The Old Clubhouse
Tucked away on East Links Road in the charming coastal village of Gullane, The Old Clubhouse is a place that immediately feels like home - only with better food, cozier ambiance, and an impressively curated drinks list. Whether you’re dropping in after a morning walk along the beach, finishing a round of golf, or simply craving a classic British dish done right, this restaurant has the laid-back charm and hearty fare to keep you coming back.
As soon as you step inside, the warmth from the fireplace draws you in, especially on those breezy Scottish afternoons. The wooden interiors, old-school pub charm, and easygoing vibe create a comforting space that’s great for solo diners, casual dates, or groups seeking a relaxed bite. And for those who love people-watching or fresh air, the outdoor seating is ideal, especially during Gullane’s rare sunny spells.
The Old Clubhouse caters to all mealtimes, but breakfast and lunch are especially popular. The Bacon and Egg Roll is a morning must - simple, satisfying, and made with quality ingredients. Paired with a strong Americano or a foamy Cappuccino, it’s the kind of breakfast that hits the spot without overcomplicating things.
Lunch and dinner menus are where things really shine. One standout is their Fish and Chips - golden, flaky, and generously portioned, it’s a crowd favorite for good reason. For something heartier, the Steak Pie Surf & Turf delivers big on comfort and flavor, often described as both rustic and elevated at the same time. Then there’s the Cullen Skink & Artisan Bread, a creamy, smoky Scottish soup that warms you from the inside out.
If you’re in for a traditional Sunday treat, don’t skip the Sunday Roast - whether it’s Roast Beef or a chicken version, expect tender meat, crisped-up roasties, and gravy you’ll want to drown your plate in. And for those curious about more unique twists, the Haggis Nachos bring a playful Scottish spin to a classic snack - surprisingly addictive.
But it’s not just about the savory dishes here. The Old Clubhouse takes dessert seriously. Their Limoncello Cheesecake is a zesty, creamy revelation, while the Sticky Toffee Pudding - also labeled as their “Famous Sticky Toffee” - lives up to the hype, with rich sponge soaked in sweet toffee sauce and usually paired with ice cream. Even a quick break for Coffee and Chips can feel like a moment of indulgence thanks to the restaurant's comforting atmosphere.
The drink offerings are just as inviting. You’ll find a solid list of beers, cocktails, spirits, and a great wine list, catering to everything from casual pints of Tennents Shandy to a well-paired glass of red with your Jambalaya or Chicken Paté. The tea selection is surprisingly robust too - a nice touch for those seeking something lighter.
For accessibility, The Old Clubhouse earns top marks. It’s equipped with a wheelchair-accessible car park, entrance, seating, and toilet, making it a genuinely inclusive space. And while it doesn’t offer takeaway or delivery, the dine-in experience is clearly where this restaurant excels.
This is a spot where locals and visitors mingle over classic Scottish plates, cheer for sports on TV, and wind down with a good drink in hand. The menu balances tradition with creativity, and the service is relaxed but attentive - just how it should be in a village like Gullane.

Popped into here at the recommendation of a local friend and we weren't disappointed. Friendly staff, charming ambience, delicious meal. My vegetarian dish was fantastic and the hubs was delighted with his steak. And a courtesy ride home. Truly a fantastic evening.
Excellent food and drink as usual. Our second visit, and standards were great on both occasions. Can't fault the food or service, and the menu changes enough to keep things fresh. Bar is lively but not too noisy, so great atmosphere. They also allow dogs - this pub is very dog friendly and very dog busy!
Super relaxed pub/restaurant. Literally used to be the golf clubhouse. Diverse menu including plenty of Scottish stuff, fresh fish, steaks, curry of the day etc. old fashioned comfort puddings (double nougat wafer ice cream!). Chatty, friendly service. Extensive wine list for those with deep pockets. Lots of free on-street parking if you need it.
Great meal on a Saturday afternoon after a beach trip. All 4 different meals between us were excellent, special mention to the pork curry as part of the around the world in 80 curry’s, it had great heat and flavour.
Lovely pub interior with a television showing the football. Great food menu which is excellent if you are gluten free. Even the fish and chips was gluten free! sometimes a little under staffed but great for a sunday afternoon
